A NEW campaign has been launched to help the 100,000 people in Sheffield living with emphysema or COPD.
British Lung Foundation research shows Sheffield is a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ‘hotspot’ – it is estimated one in every 45 people may have it.
And people in Sheffield are 28 per cent more likely to be admitted to hospital with a flare-up than the UK average.
Now NHS Sheffield, the British Lung Foundation and GlaxoSmithKline have launched a campaign to help people in Sheffield diagnosed with the lung disease live longer and healthier lives.
The symptoms – shortness of breath, persistent cough, phlegm, winter bronchitis and wheezing – can become so severe people struggle even to walk up stairs.
