Dozens of South Yorkshire mums turned out for a picnic which formed part of an attempt to break the world record for the largest number of women breastfeeding simultaneously across the world.

Workers from the Breastfeeding Link service at charity Voluntary Action Barnsley held the ‘teddy bear’s picnic’ in the town’s Locke Park.

Mums took part in the record attempt – called The Big Latch-On – during the day, while there were also similar gatherings at children’s centres in Royston and Jump.

In total, 36 mums and babies participated at the picnic, among 14,536 worldwide, up from 8,862 last year. Angela Beaumont, Breastfeeding Link supervisor, said she thought the turnout was ‘great’.
