A club in Sheffield for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia is celebrating its 25th birthday.
The club was set up by High Green resident Shirley Taylor in 1989 when little was known about the conditions.
She inspired a group of people to set up a support group known as The Thursday Club.
It has met weekly in High Green ever since and for the last 11 years has been based at St Saviour’s Church.
The club gives those suffering from the conditions the chance to meet others and take part in activities, giving their carers respite.
Dorothy Wood, who is the leader of The Thursday Club and an original team member, said: “When we started the club in 1989 we had no idea we would still be running all these years later.
“Working with those who live with Alzheimer’s is challenging at times but we have a lot of fun.
“The club only manages because we have such a great team of volunteers and I’m very grateful to all of them.”
A celebration took place St Saviour’s Church on Saturday.
