A SHEFFIELD opticians’ call for people to ensure they are having their eyes tested regularly is being backed by a city MP.
Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts is visiting Martyn Kemp Opticians in Woodhouse on Friday to support the campaign to remind the public regular eye tests are vital to protect eyesight and help spot serious illness.
Mr Betts will meet Rob Hughes, the senior optometrist at the branch and chairman of the Sheffield Local Optical Committee, representing opticians across the city.
Mr Hughes said: “An eye test is not just to check if glasses are needed but also if eyes are healthy. It can also pick up problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes or glaucoma.
“Conditions, including glaucoma, are treatable and sight loss can be prevented.”
