Bosses at Barnsley Hospital are looking at ways to enhance services for patients with secondary breast cancer.
The hospital is taking part in a national initiative designed to improve the experience for patients whose breast cancer has spread to another part of their body.
It has teamed up with charities Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Care to identify ways of enhancing services.
As part of the pledge, staff will be working with the charities to undertake a survey and to meet with patients to understand their perspective on the services it provides and to hear their feedback.
Patients will be able to submit their feedback to Breast Cancer Care, which will provide a report to the hospital in November, to enable an action plan to be drawn up.
Kate Widdowson, breast care specialist support nurse, said: “Taking part in this pledge will enable us to see our service from our patients’ point of view.
“Around the country, secondary breast cancer patients often don’t get the same level of support as those with primary breast cancer.
“We want to make sure that’s not the case here in Barnsley and that patients receive the best possible care.”
