Flu jab call

CARE workers are being urged to have the flu jab. Vaccinating nursing and care staff against flu significantly lowers the rates of flu-related illnesses, hospitalisation and death among vulnerable and elderly people.

Call for volunteers

MARIE Curie Cancer Care charity needs volunteers for a Sheffield fundraising group to hold events and supermarket collections. Call Liz Howlett on 0114 279 3010 or email liz.howlett@mariecurie.org.uk.

Striking a chord

THE sound of Christmas comes to Meadowhall when young musicians support the dementia charity Lost Chord, which provides music for people with dementia in care homes and day centres. A collection day on December 3 features the Sheffield University Big Band, Be Vox, the Bel Canto choir and groups from schools including Sheffield High School, Birkdale, Ashdell, Mount St Mary’s College and Aston Academy.

Sharing cuts costs

BIG savings are set to be made through councils working together on procurement. A pioneering service by Bolsover, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire councils has saved £2.5m. It is to extend to Mansfield and Ashfield.
