Bakers meet salt targets

Bakers in a South Yorkshire town have lowered the amount of salt in the bread they sell.

Regulatory Services Food Standards Officers at Barnsley Council worked with bakers to reduce salt content after a survey found high levels in locally-produced bread.

When salt levels were tested again this year, 88 per cent of the bread tested met the current national salt targets.

Bakers producing bread which meets salt targets have been provided with a certificate to display.
