STAFF and volunteers at Doncaster’s St John’s Hospice were honoured in an awards ceremony in London.
The day care team at the Balby centre, along with the British Heart Foundation heart failure specialist nurse team based at Cantley, Doncaster, were awarded third place in their category of ‘non-cancer award’ in the International Journal of Palliative Nursing Awards.
And long-serving volunteer at the hospice, Joan Carrick, was runner up in the service user/carer/volunteer of the year’ category.
Care leader at the hospice, Maggie Underwood, picked up the award for the staff.
Alison Constantine, the St John’s Hospice voluntary services manager, said: “We are delighted to have received two prestigious awards. The success of this project has been a reflection of the close collaboration between the specialist palliative care services and heart failure teams.”
Joan Carrick has been with the hospice since it opened.
