Asbestos risk ‘in 75% of schools’

A TOP Sheffield lawyer has called on the Government to urgently tackle the ‘potentially-devastating’ effect of asbestos in schools.

Adrian Budgen, head of asbestos litigation at Sheffield city centre-based Irwin Mitchell, spoke out after a parliamentary report estimated asbestos is present in 75 per cent of UK schools.

He said: “We’re waiting for a serious commitment to tackle the asbestos problem in our schools. Without it, there is a risk people will continue to be exposed, with potentially devastating consequences.”
