Ambulance workers are considering the possibility of a two-day continuous walkout as part of an ongoing pay dispute with the Government.

GMB members in the ambulance service are being asked whether to take part in a strike that would last from noon on Thursday, January 29, to noon on Saturday, January 31.

Health unions across the NHS have already announced a 12-hour walkout on January 29, to be followed by a day-long walkout on February 24.

It follows the Government rejecting the idea of one per cent across-the-board pay rise for NHS staff, despite it being recommended by an independent pay review board.

Steve Rice, GMB ambulance chairman, said “Never have I experienced staff morale at such a breaking point. Escalation is always a last resort but in the absence of any real talks from government or employers we have nowhere else to go.”
