Tomatoes – they’re full of health enhancing Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium and potassium.
And they’re pretty good for fundraising too… if you can find somebody to sit in a bath of them for the day!
Staff at the Ecclesall Road branch of Spanish restaurant chain La Tasca are preparing to take the plunge and immerse themselves in squashed tomatoes as they support St Luke’s Hospice.
The August 31 event coincides with Spain’s celebrated La Tomatina Festival, the annual tomato fight in the Spanish town of Bunol.
“We’ve had two Tomatina events for St Luke’s in the past and they’ve both been very popular,” said La Tasca general manager Dan Barnett.
“This year’s celebration will be running all day and all the staff will be having a turn at sitting in the tomato bath outside the restaurant, where everyone can see them.
“We’ll also be cooking a large paella, with all the profits going to St Luke’s, and we’ve got a great raffle, with some fantastic prizes donated by local shops and businesses.
“Come along and join us – it might be messy but it’ll be great fun too!”
