Residents of Barnsley are being urged to help shape plans to transform the town centre.
Barnsley Council has launched a public consultation into its Town Centre Area Action Plan, which consists of a number of policies and proposals designed to create a distinctive area. Members of the public are being invited to submit their views on the draft planning document via the council’s website from now until the end of September.
The plan forms part of the local development framework and has a statutory planning purpose.
It highlights the 14 sites which have been earmarked for development and indicates how the council and its partners plan to implement and deliver the proposals.
The council has promised the views of residents will be considered before any decisions are made.
Coun Linda Burgess, Barnsley Council’s cabinet spokeswoman for development, environment and culture, said: “This is a very important planning document for the future of the town centre. I hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to give their views once the consultation begins.”
