Sheffield paralympic target ball team, the Sheffield Smashers Boccia Club, is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
The club, which formed in 2011, has expanded to over 40 members, some of whom will take part in next year’s Special Olympic in Sheffield.
The club, which was established by Karen Codling, a partner at Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, will celebrate its landmark birthday with a party at Pond’s Forge next month.
Karen said: “The party, on November 10, is a chance to showcase the sport, which is not dissimilar to bowls, to anyone who is interested in playing or volunteering, as well as a get-together for new and old members.
“The Sheffield Smashers is an incredible club, initially supported by Activity Sheffield and Within Reach but now run totally by a number Irwin Mitchell staff volunteering every week ensuring that the club goes from strength to strength. “All the volunteers have undertaken training to be able to deliver the coaching needed, with new volunteers lined up to do the same. It is great to see so many staff supporting such a fabulous club, without who there is no doubt the club, would not be able to continue.”
“It is a joy to be part of the team and to see the difference we make on a weekly basis to all the children and adults that attend the club. The Lord Mayor will be joining our celebrations next month and we very much look forward to welcoming her.”
Sheffield Smashers practice every Thursday at Pond’s Forge, from 5.45pm. Email Charlotte.Faulkner@irwinmitchell.com for details.
