BRAVE male gym-goers in Sheffield grinned and bared it when they were waxed by customers – in the name of charity.
Staff at the Nuffield Gym, Napier Street, Little Sheffield, were raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.
Gym members paid a fee to tear wax strips off membership adviser Ric Palmer, personal trainer Lance Walcott, both aged 26, 42-year-old hairdresser Craig Holt, barman Ian Shooter and receptionist Josh White, aged 24.
The quartet offered to have their legs, backs and chests waxed to raise funds for the charity, which aims to prevent people dying from heart diseases.
The event was organised by Ric with Hannah Lister, manager of the gym’s Passion Beauty salon.
Hannah said: “There were a few screams and they are a bit pink and tender, but it went well and we had lots of people taking part.
“Some just made donations, while others wanted to pull the wax strips off themselves – to get their own back for the pain they’ve suffered in the gym.
“It has gone really well and there were lots of people standing around and taking an interest.”
The sponsored waxathon took place in the gym’s foyer, while Hannah has organised a raffle for next week.
Prizes include a cut and style at the gym’s Headlines salon, a full body massage, a meal for two at Toby Cavery at Parkhead, a meal for two at the gym’s restaurant, a free personal training session and a weeks’ free gym pass.
Hannah said: This is a cause close to mine and Ric’s hearts. Lots of people know people who have had heart attacks or strokes and we wanted to help to do something to help save lives.”
