Guns discovered in woods near South Yorkshire prison

A stash of guns has been found hidden in woodlands close to one of South Yorkshire’s prisons, it has been revealed.

Police have confirmed they are investigating after two firearms were found close to the A614, near Lindholme Prison, Doncaster.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman: “Police were called at around 2.20pm on Sunday, July 26, following reports from a member of the public that they had discovered a suspected firearm.

“Specialist officers were directed to a wooded area near to the A614 in Lindholme.

“Upon arrival, two firearms, believed to be revolvers, were recovered by officers.”

She added enquiries were continuing into the discovery but declined to comment further.

Hatfield Town Coun Mick Glynn said he thought the discovery would be a concern for the whole of the local community did want to comment further without knowing more about the incident.

Police have put out an appeal for information following the discovery.

The area where the weapons were found is away from major centres of population.
