Gunman threatens staff at bookmakers

A GUNMAN is being hunted by police after he held up a bookmakers in South Yorkshire.

The armed robber, who was brandishing a gun, threatened staff with the weapon when he struck at Tote Bookmakers, Birk Avenue, Kendray in Barnsley.

Police said he escaped with a substantial amount of cash and was last seen running off towards Hunningly Lane.

Two members of staff working in the shop at the time were described by police as “shaken and distressed” but were unharmed.

The robber was white, around 6ft tall and of a medium build.

He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and a face covering.
