DELIGHTED gala organisers have handed out cheques totalling £1,500 to good causes in the Chesterfield area.

Four charities and community organisations shared the money raised from Old Whittington’s annual Summer Gala.

Parkside Social Club, Gamelea Countryside Training Trust, Friendship Club New Whittington and drugs charity SPODA all benefited.

Cheques were presented during the Old Whittington Gala Committee’s AGM.

Simon Kendrick, chairman of Old Whittington Gala Committee, said: “We had an amazing gala this year and are delighted to be able to give money raised from the event to four very worthy causes.

“I’d like to thank everyone who supported us – from members of the public to the committee and their friends, who worked hard as always to ensure the gala was such a success.”

The committee is now looking forward to its next fundraiser, an Autumn Fair which will take place in October.
