Group backs mayor's fund

A WOMEN'S group in Sheffield has raised £50 for the Lord Mayor's charity.

Ecclesfield Co-operative Women's Guild raises money through knitting, sewing, baking and bring and buy sales. Once a year, it also holds an evening for mentally challenged teenagers and adults.

The Guild has raised money for various charities such as Bluebell Wood, Alzheimer's and diabetes organisations in the past, and this time decided to donate a cheque to Lord Mayor Coun Jane Bird.

Secretary Shirley Gosney said: "One of our main campaigns is for peace nationally and internationally, and we wear the white poppy as our symbol of peace."
