Gritters are out treating Sheffield roads as forecasters predict cold temperatures and possible snow overnight.
The city council said its fleet had been out through the morning and would continue to treat primary and secondy routes.
A weather alert said: “The Streets Ahead team will monitor the situation throughout the remainder of the day and overnight.
“Please ensure that you look at the weather forecast before travelling and plan your journey in advance.
“Please check your nearest grit bin and let us know if these need to be filled. To report grit bins to be refilled, please report it using our online form or report it via twitter on @sccstreetsahead.
“We do not grit all the pavements across the city and many of these may still be icy, please take extra care when walking on these pavements.”
The Met Office has issued a weather warning of wintry showers for tonight and into this morning.
Snow was expected to fall on higher ground and ice is likely to be an ‘additional hazard.’
Motorists have been advised of ‘tricky travel conditions’ and transport disrupton.
