GREEN Party members say they are ‘horrified’ that a further 600 jobs are set to go at Sheffield Council.
The authority has given notice to the Government that the jobs could be lost as part of plans to slash a further £50 million from its budget over the coming year.
The current £480 million budget is already £130 million less than two years ago.
Coun Jillian Creasy, who represents Central Ward for the Greens, said: “We are horrified at the cuts being imposed by the coalition Government on northern councils, which provide jobs and services for disadvantaged people.
“The council could save money and keep it circulating in the local economy by not contracting out services to multinational companies which cost us around £9m a year in profits.”
