Green light to replace nursery building
A NURSERY is set to be demolished and replaced after planners approved the scheme.
The agreed revised proposals for Mylnhurst Preparatory School and Nursery, Ecclesall, will see an existing pre-fabricated nursery demolished and a new nursery and reception block put up on the same site off Button Hill.
Chris Emmott, headmaster at the Catholic school, said the old nursery would be replaced with a ‘state-of-the-art’ educational facility.
He said: “We hope to have the project completed by the end of the calendar year.”
Two earlier applications for the scheme had attracted some debate, with letters of objection and petitions over congestion, parking, the effect on the environment, and the creation of a new access off Woodholm Road.
The third scheme had 54 letters of support and 21 of objection, plus three petitions expressing concerns - although the need to replace the nursery was accepted.
Mr Emmott said some of the issues raised had not been relevant to the nursery’s replacement.
He said: “I hope that any future issues which arise can be addressed.
“I’m sure there will be opportunities in the future for the school and local residents to work together.”
