SOLAR panels have been installed in South Yorkshire homes as part of a project to make the county greener.
During the past year, Barnsley Council fitted eight solar thermal systems and 12 cavity wall insulations at properties in Little Houghton.
The council is now is bidding for more funds to deliver wider scale works in the Dearne Valley aimed at reducing resident’s fuel bills and reducing the borough’s carbon footprint.
A council spokeswoman said: “This trial with the York-based company Solarwall is a good example of private sector partnerships being forged to deliver valuable benefit to the community.
“Solar thermal systems offer big reductions in the cost of domestic hot water. Benefits for residents, such as utility bill and energy savings, are being monitored.”
