Green group's award for saving energy
A SOUTH Yorkshire environmental group has won an award from Friends of the Earth in honour of a project looking at how residents can save energy.
Penistone Friends of the Earth received the Earthmovers award in a ceremony at the organisation's national conference.
It was handed out to recognise their work setting up the Penistone Energy Project over the last year. Events put on by the group have included a low energy light display supported by the South Yorkshire Community Foundation, school assemblies, and a public meeting about how to produce renewable energy in the town.
They have also introduced energy monitors which are now available to borrow from the local library, and started a project looking into the use of hydroelectrics.
Rachel Gibbons, from the group, said: "We were delighted to get the award which results from a lot of hard work by all our members."
