Church wardens at St Mary’s Church in Tickhill have made plans to tidy up the damaged area of the old churchyard that was affected by a falling tree during Spring gales.
The giant horse chestnut tree, thought to be between 100 and 150 years old, was brought down by strong winds on Sunday, May 1, this year.
The church wardens are keen to speak to any living relatives of people whose gravestones were damaged when the tree fell to earth, so that it can be determined just what action needs to be taken.
One of the graves that missed being demolished when the tree fell just inches away from it was the ornate grey marble memorial that marks the last resting place of Marcia Clarkson, who died in 1911, and other members of the Clarkson family.
They are the ancestors of BBC Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson.
The TV star was filmed in the churchyard for an earlier series of the genealogy programme Who Do You Think You Are?
