Households affected by bad weather are being offered grants of up to £2,000 by Sheffield Council.
The money is available to help with minor home repairs for people aged over 75 or who are claiming benefits and own their own home.
The council grants are being publicised as forecasters warn of more rain to come at the weekend.
The Meteorological Office was predicting sunshine and showers, with temperatures of about 7C today.
However, tomorrow, rain will spread across South Yorkshire, continuing on Sunday, when it will become heavier.
Temperatures are due to remain between 6C and 8C and there is no danger of frost overnight.
A council spokesman said: “The money can be used for repairs.
“These include replacement of slipped or broken roof slates, repairs to gutters and rainwater pipes, small areas of pointing, window and door repairs, paths and damp proof courses.”
The funding can also be used for repairs to steps, stairs and electrical systems.
The spokesman added: “People will be supported through each step of the application process.”
