OVERFLOWING dog dirt bags piling up beside a bin were untouched for almost a week by Sheffield Council - despite repeated calls by a concerned grandfather.

The council has apologised after a complaint by retired hospital charge nurse Mike Bolger, who lives near the bin on Psalter Lane, Nether Edge.

Mr Bolger, a grandfather of eight, said: “The bin, opposite Clifford School, was full, then bags of dog dirt were piling up and a couple of days later there was a mountain. I rang the council on three days running but it had still not been cleared.”

The bin was emptied but Mr Bolger added: “It’s a health hazard.”

Sheffield Council environmental protection manager Nick Chaplin said: “We were aware of the complaints made and, although the bin has now been emptied, it appears it had been misused, giving the impression it was full.

“We are in the process of improving our service as a whole, which should address any further concerns.”
