FEW people will have enjoyed the Olympics more than this grand old fella.
That’s because, in his day, Herbert Cliff was a keen sportsman and tried his hand at everything from boxing to biking.
Herbert recently celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends at Haythorne Place Nursing Home in Shiregreen. He was born in Carbrook and attended Carbrook School.
Son Malcolm said: “Dad loved all sport from an early age especially cricket, cycling, boxing and football - he’s a United fan.
“He took part in cycling time trials on his racing bike which had cane wheels and he boxed as an amateur locally.”
The former steel industry pattern maker is married to Dorothy and they have two sons, Malcolm and Graham, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
