Gold post box to remain as reminder of Jess

A Royal Mail postbox in Sheffield painted gold after Jess Ennis’ success at the London 2012 Olympic Games is to stay gold permanently.

The box has received a new coat of paint and has a plaque which details Jess’ gold medal heptathlon achievement.

A total of 111 postboxes were painted gold in the UK in recognition of medal winners.

It is the first time in its history that Royal Mail has permanently changed the colour of some of its iconic boxes to celebrate a historic achievement.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “A post box painted gold in 2012 to mark Jessica Ennis’ success at the London 2012 Olympic Games is to remain permanently gold.

“The post box outside Sheffield City Hall was originally painted gold lto mark Jessica Ennis’ women’s heptathlon gold medal win in the 2012 Olympic Games.

“It has received a fresh coat of gold paint and a plaque to permanently remind residents and visitors of the special local link to London 2012.”
