AN OWLS player went from saving goals to sleeping rough when he helped launch an annual event to raise money for a Sheffield homeless project.

Nicky Weaver, Sheffield Wednesday’s goalkeeper, tested out a sleeping bag in front of Sheffield Cathedral in preparation for the Archer Project’s Sleep Out, taking place on September 20.

The event is happening overnight on the cathedral forecourt, and last year’s Sleep Out raised £10,000, a total the charity is hoping to match next month.

Nicky said: “The Archer Project helps homeless people in Sheffield to move on and find new opportunities.

“We want as many people as possible to take part in the Sleep Out and help the Archer Project help more people turn their lives around.”

Anyone interested in signing up to take part should call Tracy Viner on 0114 3212312 or visit www.archerproject.org.uk.
