Woolley Woods Bluebell Festival is taking place later this month.

On the evening of Friday, April 19, Sheffield University and Regather are running a practical course called An Introduction to Ancient Metallurgy, where participants will learn and get hands on experience of how the ancient people of Sheffield would have smelted and forged their iron.

Schools will visit the woods the following week and learn how charcoal was made.

And, on Saturday, April 27, the festival culminates in a Free Celebration Day for the public.

Visitors can try their hand at green woodworking, iron smelting and blacksmithing.

Heavy horses will be pulling timber and there will be guided walks, children’s activities and refreshments available.
