A SOUTH Yorkshire Labour MP is calling for rules to force energy companies to ensure pensioners aged over 75 are put on the cheapest tariffs.
John Healey, who represents Wentworth and the Dearne, said the idea - one of his party’s new policies - could save pensioners £200 on their fuel bills.
Tens of thousands of people around the county could benefit from the change.
Mr Healey said: “With more than 400 tariffs on offer, it’s no surprise that 80 per cent of people in our area are paying over the odds for their electricity and gas bills. Big energy companies must make sure pensioners are on the cheapest deal.”
