a MOTORIST was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after an 18-year-old girl was struck by a car as she walked on a pavement along a Sheffield road.

Police said the 22-year-old man driving the car – a silver Peugeot 206 – was questioned about the incident before being bailed pending further inquiries.

It is thought his car mounted the pavement and struck the teenager at the junction of Handsworth Road and Laverack Street at 12.20am on Boxing Day.

She was taken to hospital with facial cuts and bruises, and a suspected broken bone in her leg.
