Getting the cuedown at the station

THE train now standing on platform one...is a full-sized snooker table.

Commuters using Sheffield railway station were given a nice surprise when they entered the main concourse - snooker legends John Parrott and Rotherham's Shaun Murphy were there to meet them.

The pair were there to offer playing tips to passengers as part of the BBC's coverage of the 888.com World Snooker Championships.

Tony Wilcox who arrived on Barnsley train was quick to take up their offer to try his hand at a few shots.

Tony, aged 44, from Athersley, who was on his way to work as a print operator with Sheffield Council, was shown how to hold the cue properly.

He said: "It was great to meet John and Shaun, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You might say it was my big break."

Next up was City Centre Ambassador Chris Baxter, a massive snooker fan who regularly attends games at the Crucible during the World Championships.

Chris was shown how to put back spin on the cue ball while using the rest.

The 23-year-old, from Crookes, confessed he played the game himself and says his highest break was about 40.

"I reckon now I've had a few tips from some of the best in the business I'll beat that easy."

But Chris doesn't expect either of his two snooker coaches to lift the world crown.

"It's the Rocket for me," he said. "Ronnie O'Sullivan all the way."

But Monk Bretton 20-year-old Natalie Horner didn't agree.

The Sheffield Hallam University criminology student was given a few tips on how to hold her hand on the table has her own favourite.

"I'd like John Parrott to win," she said. "He's such a lovely person, I was thrilled to meet him."
