MUSICAL couple Emma and Gavin Magenty have set up a performing arts school in Sheffield.

The pair, from Crookes, have established the Sheffield Academy of Performing Arts (SAPA) which will offer expert training for six- to seven- year-olds.

Gavin and wife Emma will work alongside three experienced teachers specialising in drama, singing and dance.

The school is affiliated to Mark Jermin Management, a national casting agency that provides children for TV advertising, film, theatre and as extras for programmes as Waterloo Road.

Gavin said: “We felt there was a need for a performing arts school in Sheffield and as Emma and I have been teaching singing for more than eight years we are happy to fill that void.

“The ethos of the academy is to offer a wide and versatile education in the performing arts while having fun, improving technique and confidence and offering pupils valuable performance opportunities.”

Emma and Gavin met while studying music at the University of Sheffield.

“We are both very active in the performing arts world. I love teaching music and watching children not just develop skills but also become more confident people.”

n The stage school is on Sundays from 2pm till 5pm at King Edward VII Upper School in Broomhill. Call 07889 845013.
