Gardening royalty Alan Titchmarsh will be visiting Derbyshire later this month to celebrate his 50 years in horticulture.

The legendary gardener will mark the milestone by hosting an exclusive event with BBC Gardeners’ Word Magazine at Haddon Hall on August 29.

Fans of both the celebrity and the great outdoors are invited to meet Alan at Haddon Hall where they can hear stories from his life and career and enjoy exclusive access to the Derbyshire venue.

Lady Edward Manners, owner of Haddon Hall, said: “We are delighted that someone of the calibre of Alan Titchmarsh within the international gardening spectrum has chosen to come here to Haddon Hall in Derbyshire and enjoy our wonderful and historic gardens.

“We look forward to welcoming him, and guests, on the day.”

Alan said: “Fifty years of experience have not provided me with all the answers but I hope to encourage more people to take up the spade - or the trowel - by sharing the sheer pleasure I still get from growing. Being among plants is the greatest privilege on earth.”
