Fury as Squeaky the pig dies

A ROW has erupted over the death of Squeaky, the stray piglet rescued after being found abandoned beside a north Derbyshire road.

The tiny newborn piglet made headlines around the country after she was discovered at the side of a road in the village of Poolsbrook, near Staveley, last month.

The rare Tamworth breed pig is believed to have succumbed to a bug - and her owners are criticising the RSPCA who took her in for not returning her to her mother sooner.

Farmer Sally Roberts, aged 38, believes the youngster had a poor immune system because she missed out on vital nutrient-rich mother's milk in her first few days.

"If she had been returned to us straight away, instead of being kept away for a month, she would not have died," she said.
