FUNGUS fans can forage in a Sheffield park to survey types of mushrooms growing there.
Around 20 people will be taking part in the fungus foray at Norfolk Heritage Park on Sunday. Caroline Hobart, from the British Mycological Society, which is organising the event, said: “We held two fantastically successful residential workshops in 2011. At Northern College, Barnsley, 43 people attended and we found species new to Yorkshire and new to Britain.”
Some 966 fungi were recorded, from 430 different species. Five were new to Britain and 46 new to Yorkshire.
“In Norfolk Heritage Park, we will be busy looking at small mushrooms - the ascomycetes or the ‘spore shooters’,” she said. Call 0114 276 1737 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to attend.
