Funeral absence story was not quite right

In response to the Education article on page three of Friday’s edition I feel compelled to highlight inaccuracies in reporting on the unauthorised absence case.

• No warning was issued to children.

• In fact no warning was issued at all.

• In dialogue with the parent there was no mention that similar behaviour in future could lose the children their places.

• The school was extremely mindful of the children’s distress and held a special assembly on bereavement when the children returned.

In a conversation with the family, the headteacher did express her regret about the family’s loss and assured them that because of the circumstances the five day absence would not receive a fixed term penalty.
