On Sunday, May 8, more than 300 people cycled across the Peak District to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

I would like to thank everyone from the area who took part. They did an amazing job and it is hoped the event will raise around £25,000 for our pioneering work in what is our 50th birthday year.

We met some wonderful people and every one had their own special or personal reason for taking part.

Heart disease touches us all and by supporting events like this, together we can beat it.

Songs were in our hearts

I’ve just been reading that the wife of the late Frank Sinatra is to reveal secrets of him.

And this made me think of the time when you could listen in on the radio to the likes of Sam Browne with the Ambrose Band and Al Bowley with the Lew Stone Outfit singing those romantic and love songs of the day. I also remember the late Steve Conway when he sang My Thanks To You.

These vocalists could make you think they they were singing just for you.

Sadly songs like Together, Body and Soul, and Always, are now out of fashion. But those songs we heard with our ears were the only songs that we sang in our hearts.
