A SHEFFIELD man took fundraising to new heights when he jumped out of a plane to help restart a children’s mobile library project in Gaza.

Chair of Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Musheir El-Fara, raised more than £5,000 through the sponsored parachute jump.

His aim is to take much books to children living in the area which Prime Minister David Cameron called ‘a prison camp’.

The mobile library project was first launched three years ago with a centre in the Khan Younis of the Gaza Strip.

Once a week, funding paid for a taxi to take two youth volunteers, toys and books to area’s suffering because of the political situation.

The workers spent five hours per visit giving children the chance to read, play and entertain themselves.

In April 2010, the project ground to halt due to lack of funding and now Musheir is determined to get it back up and running.

He said: “I am on restarting the project again and hopefully we will extend it to cover other areas as well, Nussairat Refugee Camp and Rafah.”
