A drive to increase the number of bone marrow donors in Sheffield has been given a cash boost.

Sheffield Marrow, a project run with the city’s student population and the Anthony Nolan Trust, is set to step up its efforts to get more people on to the register after a £26,000 donation.

The cash comes from Westfield Health in recognition of the success of scheme, which recruited 1,000 new donors last year alone.

Charlotte Connolly, regional recruitment manager at Anthony Nolan, said: “It’s amazing what Sheffield Marrow has achieved – their efforts are invaluable for our work in delivering lifesaving transplants for people with blood cancer.”
