Fun packed day for Magpies' 20th - PICTURES

A THRIVING Sheffield football club celebrated its 20th birthday when 2,000 people attended an action-packed fun day.

Beighton Magpies hosted the annual event at the village's sports and leisure club in High Street.

Activities included a megaslide and pony rides, and people could also try their luck on a host of games and competitions including find the wine trail, coconut shy, and raffle.

The club, which started out as one team in 1988, now has 14 including 10 boys' teams, two girls' teams and two adult teams, one male and one female.

Club secretary Alan Stork said: "It was a great day blessed by great weather. One of the main reasons we did it was because as such a big club are costs are high. The kit alone costs 6,500 every two years, but an event like this shows we are continuing to go from strength to strength."

Football games and other sporty contests including a beat the goalie test were also organised as part of Sunday's event which ran all day from 11am.
