Sheffield United were held 1-1 by Northampton Town in their pre-season friendly at Sixfields.

Andy Butler put the Blades in front after 27 minutes when he headed in from a Ben Davies free kick.

However on 58 minutes the Cobblers were awarded a penalty when Marc Richards was adjudged to have been brought down in the box by George Long. The striker stepped up to convert the spot kick himself.

United again had two trialists on show. Ex-Chelsea left-back Adam Nditi was in the starting line-up, along with Scottish midfielder Robbie Crawford.

SHEFFIELD UNITED: Long, Davies, McGahey, Butler, Nditi, Campbell-Ryce, McGinn, Doyle, Reed, Crawford, Porter. Not used: Howard, Alcock, Harris, Basham, Scougall, Baxter, McDonagh, Maguire, Dimaio, Pailing.

NORTHAMPTON TOWN: Duke, Alefi, Carter, Collins, Richards, O’Toole, Hackett, Diamond, Robertson, Ravenhill, Mohamed. Not used: Horwood, Langmead, Sinclair, Tozer, Snedker, Nicholls, Moyo, Roberts.
