From class to parliament

Have your say

DONCASTER youngster Alex Weir got a taste of politics when he landed himself a week of work experience with his MP.

The Hayfield School pupil spend five days in the constituency office of Don Valley MP and Labour local government spokeswoman Caroline Flint.

Alex said: “I never thought working in an office would be so interesting. It was not at all how I imagined it. I was amazed at the range of issues Caroline has to deal with as an MP, from US missile defence to climate change.”

Ms Flint said: “It was a pleasure to give Alex a taste of office life.

“He saw the hundreds of emails I receive each week; the piles of post and the dozens of phone calls. I think he was most surprised that we have thousands of files for the people I have tried to help in the past few years.”
