SLIMLINE Shaun Wheatley is only half the man he used to be – after shedding a mammoth seven stone in 14 months.

Two years ago, father-of-two Shaun, of Church Road, Royston, Barnsley, weighed in at more than 20 stone with a 56in chest and a 46in waist.

The 43-year-old admits he had half-heartedly tried every 'fad' diet going but liked his food too much to stick to any.

Shaun, co-director of a construction company who has two teenage children, said he had become accustomed to a sedentary family life.

"But I got to a stage in my life where I felt absolutely terrible," he said.

"It was a heart attack waiting to happen. I knew I had to do something."

Shaun and his wife Christine joined their local Slimming World club – but with only one other man there it wasn't easy.

"The hardest thing I've ever done was walking through the door of the slimming club," he said.

"It's not exactly a manly thing to do, and I faced a lot of stick – especially working in the construction industry."

But a 18 months later, weighing in at 13st 7lb, Shaun is transformed.

He said: "I have more energy, I can take part in activities with my kids, and I feel a lot better about myself.

"Men don't like to think about their weight and looks but you just have to look at the change in your life to see that it's worth it."

Christine Melhuish, who runs the club in Royston, said: "Barnsley seems to be getting the worst publicity as being the fattest town in England. But as a Barnsley bloke who works in the construction industry Shaun has done something amazing.

"He is a great support to all my other male and female members, giving help advice and inspiration to lots of others and has got men coming through our doors."
