A free course for people interested in working in a nursery or school is going to be held this week in Barnsley.

The part-time course, which will last for five weeks, will give training to people with a view to getting employment.

The ‘introduction to working with children’ course will be held every week at Wellington House in Wellington Street, run by Barnsley’s Adult and Family Learning service.

The first session will be held at 6pm on Monday, September 22, with two sessions also available on Wednesday at 9.30am or 1.30pm.

A course spokesman said: “Through this new course students will learn about children’s foundation stage, the curriculum, the nursery and school day, and about the role they can play in supporting young children. It is an ideal introduction for people who want to help their own children, or those considering a qualification to work in nursery or school.

“Students will gain a certificate for an award in personal and social development. There will be an opportunity to progress onto a longer course to gain a recognised qualification.”
