A NEW initiative is providing childminders with the skills they need to care for youngsters in Derbyshire.
A course provided by the county council is on offer free of charge to anyone interested in becoming a childminder.
The first 33 successful students received certificates at County Hall, Matlock, where they were congratulated by Coun Barry Lewis, cabinet member for young people.
He said: “We want parents and carers in Derbyshire to be able to access the highest quality childcare.
“By providing this training we’re making it possible for adults to develop the skills to ensure children will be in the best possible care.”
Training lasts eight weeks and involves written and group work.
