COUNCILLORS have announced an investigation into the way fostering and adoption systems work in Barnsley.
The council’s personal and family wellbeing scrutiny commission is to look into safeguarding arrangements and how prospective foster or adoptive parents are selected.
Coun Jen Worton, commission chairman, said: “Our first investigation is an important one, which will focus on what is probably the council’s most significant responsibility - to safeguard children and young people in the borough.
“We want to check our arrangements for protecting children and young people in care are as effective as they should be.”
The commission has invited people with experience of the system to contact them on 01226 773066 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
