FORMER civic mayor of Doncaster Ken Knight shared his garden with the public - to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Ken and his wife, serving Doncaster Councillor Pat Knight, opened up their garden in aid of the current civic Mayor’s charity, the Aurora Centre.

Coun Eva Hughes, who succeeded Coun Knight into the mayor role earlier this year, attended the event to declare it open.

Ken and Pat have been tending to their garden at their home at Broadway for almost a quarter of a century.

Visitors were shown the lawns, sweeping flower beds and ‘secret garden’.

Mrs Knight said they were both keen gardeners and had been looking forward to sharing their passion for horticulture.

They also ran a raffle, tombola and plant sale.

In total, the event raised £720.52.

The Aurora Centre, at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, offers non-clinical treatments for cancer patients, such as beauty therapy, to help boost patients morale.
