SHEFFIELD’S outgoing Lord Mayor raised £27,000 for charity over the last year.

Sylvia Dunkley, first citizen for 12 months until May, when she also stood down from Sheffield Council, supported Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and the British Heart Foundation.

She said: “I am grateful to all who contributed by running concerts and the Town Hall and City Hall and a Lord Mayor’s pilates class; Radio Ramadhan, Holy Trinity Church, Millhouses and many others for their donations.”

Mrs Dunkley also thanked council colleagues for raising cash.

She said: “I learned so much during the year how much work is required to raise funds for charity and could not have achieved such a great deal without assistance of many helpers.”
